As you all know from playing the game, I could technically age up a sim any time with the cake.
However, when I play my games, I create certain rules for myself. Some rules revolve around something simple like if and when to use gameplay cheats (such as the one I used to send Travitha back to toddlerhood!). But other rules, are a little more complex.
One of those rules is never to age a sim up prematurely. Once I’m within 3 days of their birthday, I’ll plan aging them up. I try to stick to their actual birthday but if it’s on a busy work or school day, or already has a special event, and I’m within that 3 day range, I’ll sometimes do it a couple days early.
When Tomi aged up with Jarrett, I checked her lifespan in the game and she was the same age as Jarrett, so it was easy for me to have her blow out the candles on his cake right after him.
The only time I’ve ever aged up a sim prematurely is with Summer’s “magic cake”. Summer made it for Travitha and Travitha placed the candles on the very same cake to age up Jamie.
The dilemma now for Jamie is where to find the magic cake. With Summer gone and no magic powers of her own, the “magic” cake can’t just be made by any sim.
How will she get her hands on a magic cake? Well… I guess time will tell. 👀
