Read the Prologue: “The Magic Cake”
I stood there. My heart was pounding faster than it ever had.
There he was. Through the sprawling ivy and endless lilies trickling down the trail, Caiden was walking towards me. Even with his suit on, I could see the defined shape of his muscular arms. My god, he’s gorgeous. How on earth did I get this lucky?
I exhaled calmly. This was it. After everything we’ve been through together, this was our moment. As I looked up, I saw his brown eyes watching me. His lips started to part into that half smile he does so well. I couldn’t believe that he was mine.
The music began to play as I headed down the aisle, one step at a time. It had been a long road but my dreams were finally coming true. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
Snap out of it, Jamie.
I shook as I opened my eyes and all of it was gone. The dreams. The hope. Everything.
I looked around at Summer’s old kitchen and the magic cake as it sat in front of me.
I had blown at the candles, so why on earth didn’t they go out? Did I do something wrong? Did the cake lose its power? Or is this the spell? Am I permanently locked inside this teenage body?
I could feel my heart racing as the sweat ran down my face. I turned and looked back at Caiden.
“Why isn’t it working?” I said frantically.
“Just give it a moment,” he said trying to reassure me. But I knew he was scared too. That signature Caiden Scott confidence had shed from his face. I could read every ounce of worry in his eyes.
“Oh my god, Caiden. If this doesn’t work — what will we do?”

Cell Block #5 (Follows Chapter 243)
Rain dripped down the windows of the Asylum as the Warden wandered the halls.
“Locked…locked…locked..“ she said with a nod as she checked each of the cell doors. She turned her head as she heard a rattle on one of the handles.
“Go to sleep, Chloe. You can come out in the morning,” the Warden said. Chloe grimaced bitterly as she walked away from the door back to her bed.
The Warden headed down the stairs into her private bedroom. On the bed, Don Lothario was waiting for her.
“Hey Warden. Am I under arrest? Do you need to lock me up?” he said with a wink.
The Warden rolled her eyes. She knew he was a total tool but there was something so exciting about him too. “I don’t know. Have you been a bad, bad boy, Don?” she said as she bit her lower lip and walked over to the bed.
“Oh…Don has always been a bad boy,” he said as he studied her body. He grabbed her by the waist and threw her onto the cotton sheets.
“Oh Don!” she shouted out, her voice echoing across the asylum.
Directly above the Warden’s bedroom, Summer was sitting on the bed inside her cell. As she gazed at the small window to the outside world, she cocked her head to the side. I wonder how easy it would be to just burn through those bars. She sighed as she shook her head. No. That won’t work…maybe if I set the Warden on fire though it would eliminate these door locks.
As she found herself lost in thought, she heard a knock on the wall.
“Summer? Are you in there?” a voice said.
Summer crept over with her head tilting from side to side. “Who’s there? Is that you Warden?” she said as her eyes twinkled with excitement. “Have you come to play?”
“Oh yes!” the Warden shouted out from down below.
Summer looked down confused. “Or maybe you’re already playing.” She shook her head as she pressed her ear up against the wall. “If you’re not the Warden, who are you?” she paused. “Am I hearing voices again?” she whispered to the wall.
“No, it’s me, Chloe,” the voice said.
Summer rolled her eyes. “Oh. Chloe. What do you want?”
“Some of the ladies are saying you’ve got magic powers…that you can burn a hole through this place. Is that true?”
Summer smiled. She didn’t realize she was famous. “More or less,” she smirked.
“Do you think you could get us out of here?” Chloe inquired. “I have some scores to settle.”
“You think you have a score to settle? Lady, take a number,” Summer said.
Chloe looked at the wall. “Sounds like you have some plans of your own.”
Summer smirked. “Plans? I have dreams upon dreams of plans. Sometimes…they even make me sing…and dance.”
Summer suddenly jumped off her bed and began singing through the walls.
“One way! Or another! I’m gonna find you! I’m gonna get you get you get you —” Summer belted.
Chloe shouted through the walls. “That’s uh— well — that’s interesting,” she judged as she rapidly blinked her eyes and shook her head, trying to dismiss Summer’s horrific singing voice. “Who are you going to find?”
Summer paused mid dance and looked around completely zoned out. “Knock knock. Once upon a time a little dolly arrived outside of his box. He wanted someone to play with him. So I took him in and gave him a dollhouse. A beautiful house with locks that would keep him safe forever. But then he not only escaped the dollhouse I personally built for him…he had the audacity to take my money along with him!”
Chloe stared at the wall. Did she say Dolly? And I thought I was crazy, she thought. “What dolly are you talking about?”
“Don Lothario,” Summer said pointedly.
“Mmmm…I think I met him once. Tall. Dark hair. Obsessed with woohoo, right?”
Summer rolled her eyes. “Does it matter?”
The wheels began turning in Chloe’s head. A woohoo obsessed man with a boat load of money was out there? This target seemed almost too good to be true.
“You wouldn’t happen to know if he’ll be an elder any time soon…would you?”
Summer sighed. “Who cares. This conversation is boring me now. Goodnight.”
As Summer removed her ear from the wall, Chloe sat back in her own bed. Don Lothario. It looks like I have a new target when I get out of here, she thought to herself as she began to giggle.
