After Jarrett inadvertently messes up their baby making plans, Tomi calls her mom, Lucia for emotional support. Unfortunately, the call doesn’t go as expected.

From the moment she was born, Tomi had been raised to always be friendly and hospitable. It’s part of what made her and Jarrett such a perfect match. They were both people pleasers and lived for seeing each other happy.
What would my parents do in this situation? Tomi thought. They were always so friendly every time I had friends or boyfriends over, she smiled. But just as quickly she remembered.
Sometimes being friendly all the time could come at a disadvantage. Look at her parents after all! As a teenager, Tomi would invite the parents of whomever she was dating over for a family dinner. But no matter how friendly and inviting her parents were, her boyfriend’s parents never seemed to come over again to visit. And then, within a week, her boyfriend at the time would make up some weird excuse to break up before disappearing from her life forever.
Maybe my family was too inviting. Maybe setting boundaries once in a while isn’t such a bad idea.
Tomi pulled out her phone to call her mom, Lucia, for some advice.
