Casey paced the floors in his bedroom as he held a picture of him and Leila in his hand. Should I call her? Is there anything wrong about seeing how she’s doing?
His face was sullen. He missed her dearly and wanted more than anything to feel like their relationship meant something to her too. Maybe she misses me but she’s too scared to call. Maybe she’s sorry for everything she said but she just doesn’t know how to make the first move.
He sat down on the edge of his bed feeling defeated. Or maybe, she just never cared about me at all.
He glanced at his bedsheets. Why did my parents never replace these beds? No wonder Leila thought I was still a kid. I still have spaceship bedsheets and dog nightstand. He threw himself backwards on the bed in disbelief. You’ve gotta grow up Casey, he said to himself.
As he stared up at the ceiling, he put the picture down beside him and pulled his phone from his pocket. You’re doing this. You’re going to show her that you’ve matured. You’re no longer a little kid. We can just be friends. Just to have her still in my life. Yeah. That seems like the grown up thing to do.
