I remember the first time Mommy took me into her lair. It felt exciting at the time. As a toddler, I felt like a chore she had to do. She’d leave me upstairs for days on end and disappear into the basement. It felt so mysterious and threatening all at the same time. The only time she’d mention taking me down there was if I didn’t listen.
But after my birthday, something changed. She took me down into her lair and told me, this was my birthday present. My new home. She said she’d teach me magic and how to be just like her…but even more powerful.
