And Now, We’re Done
As Casey headed towards the table, Leila stormed after him. “Hey! We weren’t done.”
“Funny. Because I’m pretty sure when you dumped me, you made it quite clear that we were.”
“I meant in this conversation,” she glared.
“Whatever. I don’t care.”
“Well wasn’t that obvious from day one,” Casey said dryly as he sat down next to Annabelle instead.
Hannah overheard from across the room and tried to smile through the awkwardness.
“So Brent! How are you enjoying Jarrett’s famous dish?” Hannah smiled. Brent swallowed his food.
“I’ve gotta say, Hannah! These are hands down the best balls I’ve ever had in my mouth.”
Chloe stared at all of the eyeballs on everybody’s plate but her own.
“Are you all crazy?! How can you people eat eyeballs?” Chloe said with a gasp. Travitha looked at her. “Really? We’re the crazy ones?” she said.
“So you’re living with ghosts now Carter?” Don said.
“I really prefer not to think about it, thanks,” Carter said as he ate. Don looked at him nervously.
“You haven’t seen…Summer around by any chance? Have you? Last time she haunted me, it was quite scary.”
Caiden quickly changed the topic. “Oh my god! Jarrett! You outdid yourself again, my man! These balls are insane!”
“It’s like they’re judging me,” Leila said as she stared at her plate.
Jamie sat awkwardly at the other end of the table. They’re not the only ones, she thought.
“Personally, I love them,” Jamie said.
“I’m sorry. But who even are you?” Leila stared.
“Uhhh…Jamie. Caiden’s wife.”
“Oh. You changed your hair,” Leila said as Casey sat down beside her.
Annabelle turned her head to listen. Wow, I hope being observant wasn’t on her list of skills, she thought.
“So Leila. Did you hear? Caiden’s a married man now and making thousands of dollars treasure hunting?”
Jamie beamed. “That’s my Caiden you’re bragging about.”
Leila glared as Casey smiled. He was finally over her, he thought to himself.
“But I’m sure you’re doing big things with your life too, right?”
Leila grimaced. Not really, she thought.
“Did somebody tell you I don’t have a job yet? Because I’m a student. I don’t need one yet.”
“Are we done here?” she glared.
As Leila and Casey continued their heated discussion, the family cheered at the next table. “That was the greatest meal I’ve ever had!” Caiden said.
Chloe couldn’t believe her ears as Travitha smiled next to her. “You know those eyeballs are all watching you now from our stomachs, right?” Travitha snarked.
“Oh llamas,” Chloe thought in terror. What happens next?

Synopsis

Casey confronts Leila and tries everything he can to make her uncomfortable.

Did You Know?

  • As the family fold has grown, I found it quite challenging to cover every moment from Harvestfest. However, I pick and choose based on where it seems the drama is. While everyone else was happily eating, it was clear Leila was in a terrible mood. It seemed only right to spend time having Casey taunt her!
