Synopsis: After a quickie with the Warden at his bachelor pad, Father Winter pays Don a visit and takes him on a journey of his past and future.

Excerpt:

“Oh Don. That was — wow. I think I nearly blacked out there!” The Warden said as she rolled over in his cotton sheets. She scrunched her hair with the palm of her hand as she sighed. “So, Mr. Lothario. Am I the first on the list of many this Winterfest? Do you need to usher me out the door?” she half-joked. After all, she knew when she began hooking up with Don that it was all just for woohoo. Don pulled his shirt over his head as he got out of the bed. He turned to her and shrugged. “I’m not really sure, babe. I thought maybe I’d watch the game or something.”

The Warden looked at him, raising her eyebrows. She didn’t know whether that was an invitation or not. “Do you want me to —“ before she could finish the sentence, Don cut her off. “Go? Yeah. I mean, I guess. No point in sticking around and wasting your day here in my pad!” Don said, clueless as ever.

“Right. I’ll just get dressed and be on my way,” she said as Don walked out of the room, ignoring her. In the living room, Don pulled out his phone and called Jamie. “Hey honey! Do you want to come over and watch the big game with me today? It’s gonna be awesome,” he smiled. Jamie rolled her eyes from the other end of the phone. “Dad. Do you honestly think I’m going to leave my family alone on Winterfest?”

Don’s face turned solemn. “Well, I’m your family too, aren’t I? Come on. What’s one Winterfest without them?” Jamie shook her head. “I have to go Dad,” she said with a hint of irritation in her voice. “Happy Winterfest. If you want to join us today, you’re welcome to.”

And just like that, she hung up the phone. Don scratched his head. “Well looks like it’s just you and me today, my love,” he said as the Warden walked into the room.

“Wow. I didn’t realize you were that serious about me but yeah — okay. I’ll spend the day with you! What do you want to do?” Don stared at her with his jaw dropped. “Uh — I was actually just talking to my TV.”

The Warden looked at him dumbfounded. “Men,” she said, annoyed. “You know what, next time you want someone to woo your hoo, don’t call me.” It was one thing to be his casual side piece but it was another for him to so blatantly treat her like one. She stomped to the door and slammed it on her way out.

Don shrugged as he dropped onto the couch and turned on the TV. As the game began, he closed his eyes. Woohooing at his age really was starting to take a lot out of him. Slowly, he nodded off to sleep.

“Don?” he heard a voice say. Startled, he opened his eyes to see Father Winter standing in front of him. “Is this really how you want to spend your holidays for the rest of your life?” he asked him. Don quickly rose his ears up towards his shoulders. “This is how I’ve always spent it. Except, maybe with a bit more woohoo,” he suddenly paused as his face turned serious. “Are you saying I should be spending today at the club? Cause that sounds dangerous. I’m not as young as I used to be.”

Father Winter shook his head. “Oh Don. I think right now, you need to come with me.”

“Where?” Don asked.

“To days of Winterfest’s past.”

Don looked at him skeptically. “This ain’t The Sims 3 bro. We can’t time travel.”

Father Winter ignored him as he took Don’s hand and walked him straight through the wall. As they reached the other side of the wall, Don felt the air shift around him. Suddenly, he was no longer inside his bachelor pad. Don looked at the windows as snowflakes delicately fell along the sills. “What’s that smell?” he said sniffing the air.

Father Winter smiled. “That would be your mother’s famous mac and cheese.”

Don looked at him. “My — my mother?” Don felt a lump in his throat.

“Hey! Don! Would you look at what mom got me for Winterfest? Check out this cool new diving board! It’s over at the pool!” a young voice said…
